DENTURES Dentures are replacements for missing teeth that you can remove and put back into your mouth. Dentures replace all of the teeth in one arch and tissue-colored acrylic bases fit over your gums. The upper denture covers the entire palate (the roof of your mouth), while the lower denture is shaped like a horseshoe to accommodate your tongue. Dentures have tooth colored teeth and can be very natural looking. Click here for more information. CONVENTIONAL DENTURES are made after all teeth have been removed and healing is complete. IMMEDIATE DENTURES are made before the remaining teeth are removed and are ready for insertion immediately following tooth removal so you never have to be without your teeth. They require future refitting because the bone that once supported the teeth reshapes as it heals, causing the denture to become loose. Bone continues to be lost for as long as you wear the denture sometimes resulting in difficulty wearing the denture. PARTIAL DENTURES A partial denture rests on the gum tissue where teeth are missing and is supported by remaining natural teeth. They either have a custom made metal base or a plastic base. Sometimes crowns are placed on some natural teeth to serve as anchors. Partial dentures are damaging to the remaining teeth and cause ongoing bone loss. |
